What is the difference between tennis and wheelchair tennis?

May the 29th, 2008

There is only one difference between tennis and wheelchair tennis rules:
Athletes who play tennis in wheelchairs are allowed to have the ball bounce twice, and the second bounce does not have to be within the court's boundaries.
However you will be amazed to know that most professional athletes, and especially the ones in the Top 5, do not use this advantage and just play tennis following the general rules - with one bounce.

Florence Gravellier (29), the fifth best woman player in the world kindly explained this difference to us in an interview. She is sponsored by Invacare France, through Cap Vital Santé, and will participate in the IWTC in Cremona, from June 9th to 15th.
Florence has played tennis for 16 years. At first, it was just for fun and love of the sport, and later, within the framework of international competitions.

We would like to thank Florence for the time she took to answer all our questions on wheelchair tennis. We look forward to supporting Florence during the IWTC, and wish her the best of luck for her season! We can't wait to see her play!
