Invacare iportal Ipod Wheelchair Mobility Technology

The introduction of iPortal with its innovative integration of mobile technology with powerchair controls is changing many lives and pushes the boundaries of accessibility for disabled people.

A new concept now available from Dynamics is the iPortal Accessibility Application. It allows people to make phone calls, surf the net, text and join the online world. iPortal Accessibility enables joystick control of iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices, and it works with other Invacare special controls such as switch or head control.

iPortal integrates with an existing wheelchair control to give added functionality, and by using Bluetooth technology it displays wheelchair information in real time. It can show speed with a range indicator; seat adjustment and a large battery gauge, plus when connected to an iphone 3GS displays a compass heading.

People with impaired hand control can also benefit by using assistive speech apps in conjunction with an Apple device by using voice activation.

Now iPortal can even assist in the home by giving access to environmental controls such as turning on lights, the TV, closing the curtains or opening doors by working in conjunction with specific apps that can be downloaded from the internet.
